Conditions of Employment

  • Employees must be 14 years of age by July 1st of this year.
  • The dates that paychecks will be mailed for this detasseling season will be posted on the homepage.
  • Employee will not receive his/her check until all necessary documents are turned into the office.
  • Regardless of employment termination (quit or fired), checks will not be released until the scheduled pay day.
  • Timing and duration of employment season cannot be accurately predicted.
  • Work schedule may be given on short notice.
  • Start times and the number of hours worked per day will vary (bring pay phone $ or cell phone).
  • Employment cannot be guaranteed for a specific duration.
  • There may be a gap of several days between employment.
  • Transportation will be provided to and from work site from specified pickup points.
  • Workman’s Compensation Insurance is provided on employees during the work period.
  • Rides to the field are paid time. Lunch-breaks are not paid.
  • Work will continue under such adverse weather conditions as; heat, high humidity, direct sun, rain and mud. Please dress accordingly.
  • Water will be provided in sufficient quantities; however, we encourage you to bring your own supply as well.
  • No employee will be expected to work under conditions endangering their health.
  • The employer is not responsible for personal property lost or stolen.
  • Failure to follow instructions of supervisor or bus driver will result in immediate termination.
  • Behavior inappropriate to a work place will not be tolerated. Pick-up point is to be respected at all times, ie: no trash, no horseplay, etc.
  • Any detasseler that resigns themselves from their duties before the end of their crew’s workday will be responsible for gaining their own transportation home, if they are unwilling to wait and ride home with their crew. This rule also applies to those detasselers that are summarily fired during the workday. If this is the likelihood for you, you should be prepared by bringing your own cell phone, as Kerkhoff, LLC will not provide one. If you choose to stay with your crew until their workday is complete you will be required to stay on, or near, said transporting vehicle and remain under the authority of the crew leader, and/or bus driver, until returned to your drop-off point.
